Unschooling
I taught for many years. I know and love many teachers. But traditional education isn’t always a good fit, so I am a huge fan of alternative learning. Especially publicly funded programs like SAGE and SAGE QUEST in Hamilton, which my kids attended.
Our family also had a period of unschooling (life learning), wherein the boys learned at home in a child-led, organic way. I wrote several articles about our experiences, and we were featured in a TVO segment on unschooling.
Thank god for Funny
Two years ago, I was all set to begin writing a rather solemn novel which required a lot of work and a deep dive, emotionally. Along came Covid and I thought, “A pandemic is a lot of work and a deep dive, emotionally.”
And then I thought, “Maybe what the world needs right now (besides Love, Sweet Love) is something easy to read. Lighthearted and fun.”
And so I began to compile a collection of humourous – to me, anyway! – one or two page anecdotes.
Here are a couple of tidbits from Thank god for Funny, which I hope to publish soon.

ANNE BOKMA founded the 6-Minute Memoir in 2013. I am honoured to have been asked to participate several times.
These storytelling evenings feature a dozen or so local storytellers who spin their tales on a common theme within the strict time limit of six minutes or less.
Over the years more than 250 storytellers have taken to the stage and more than $60,000 has been raised for local organizations such as First Unitarian Church, The Eva Rothwell Centre, The Welcome Inn Community Centre, the Sexual Assault Centre of Hamilton, Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing, the Refugee Sponsorship Committee of the Anglican Diocese of Niagara, Empowerment Squared, Wellwood Cancer Support and Body Brave.
